Executive Director – Faye Peterson House (Crisis Homes Inc.)
Thunder Bay, Ontario
Salary Range: $105,000 – $125,000
Faye Peterson House is seeking a visionary and values-driven Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter of community impact. This is an exciting leadership opportunity for someone passionate about advancing safety, equity, and justice for women and children experiencing violence. Faye Peterson House provides emergency shelter, support services, and second-stage housing for women and children experiencing violence. The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership, oversee operations, strengthen partnerships, and champion the organization’s mission within the community.
About The Role
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, health, and operational success of the organization. The Executive Director works closely with staff, volunteers, community partners, and funders to advance the organization’s mission and ensure high-quality programs and services.
This role serves as the public face of the organization, building strong relationships across the nonprofit, government, and private sectors while ensuring the organization remains responsive to existing and emerging needs.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
● Work with the Board of Directors to establish and implement the organization’s strategic vision and priorities.
● Provide leadership in the development and execution of organizational and financial plans.
● Monitor sector trends and emerging issues in gender-based violence and ensure programs remain responsive and effective.
● Establish clear performance measures and ensure strategic goals are achieved.
Organizational Management:
● Provide overall leadership and management of organizational operations, including human resources, finance, governance, risk management, and program delivery.
● Build and lead a collaborative, high-performing team of staff and volunteers.
● Foster a workplace culture grounded in feminism, anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion.
● Ensure operational and fiscal integrity and accountability.
● Oversee facility operations, including maintenance, safety, and building functionality
Fundraising and Resource Development:
● Lead fundraising and resource development initiatives.
● Identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with donors, funders, and corporate partners.
● Promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.
Financial Management:
● Oversee the development and implementation of the organization’s annual budget and business plan.
● Ensure sound financial management, reporting, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
● Monitor financial performance and organizational sustainability.
Community Leadership:
● Serve as a key spokesperson and champion for the organization.
● Build strong relationships with community leaders across nonprofit, government, and corporate sectors.
● Strengthen partnerships that expand the organization’s impact and services.
Qualifications & Experience
● Bachelor’s Degree, preferred in Business, Public Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree considered an asset); or an equivalent combination of education, training, and senior leadership experience in the nonprofit or related sectors.
● 7–10 years of senior leadership experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector. Experience in the violence against women sector is an asset.
● Experience working with Boards of Directors and volunteers; or extensive senior strategic leadership experience in the management of organizations of comparable size or mission.
● Strong understanding of feminist analysis and issues related to gender-based violence.
● Strong experience in strategic leadership, team development, and relationship building.
● Strong experience managing budgets, organizational operations, and complex stakeholder relationships.
● Strong experience navigating unionized environments and collective agreement frameworks.
● Experience working across multiple sectors, including nonprofit, public and corporate environments.
● Experience in developing partnerships, building teams, and conflict management.
Working Conditions
● Primarily office-based with occasional community engagement activities.
● Must be able to occasionally meet after or before normal business hours.
● Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
● Must be comfortable working in an environment where risk of injury or harmful effect may be possible.
● Must provide and maintain a clear and satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
● Some evening or weekend work may be required.
● Occasional travel may be required.

Cook – part time (temporary)
Salary Range: $29.30-31.95/Hour
Hours of Work: Saturday and Sundays 1-5 pm
Qualifications:
1. Applicants must have a safe food handler certificate and a post-secondary or similar certification in cooking. Preference will be given to applicants that have an awareness of Indigenous food and culture. (A copy of your qualifications must be attached to your resume.)
2. A Work experience of .5 to five years of full-time or full-time equivalent (26-260 weeks) performed at a competent level. Preference given to applicants who have worked and have experience cooking for a hospital/shelter/school/daycare like program. Must identify as a woman.
3. Must demonstrate an understanding and ability to serve 2SLGBTQAI+ survivors. Knowledge and/or experience in working with mental health and/or substance abuse/addiction problems. Practice from a harm reduction philosophy.
4. Identifies as a feminist and can articulate their Feminist Analysis within an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and decolonial framework.
5. Indigenous women or women of colour are encouraged to apply.
6. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with women and children, and work as an effective team player.
7. Demonstrates an understanding of the Mission, Vision and Value statements of the organization as well as an analysis of Violence Against Women.
8. Embodies interpersonal attributes of mindfulness.

Permanent Sexual Violence Counsellor – Competition #2026-01
Salary Range: $29.30-$31.95
Hours of Work: Monday-Friday (hours to vary; some evenings may be required), 35-40/wk.
Job Description: Faye Peterson House is excited to welcome a compassionate and dedicated full-time Sexual Violence Counsellor/Shelter Worker to our team. In this role, you will be part of a supportive shelter environment where your work truly makes a difference—offering therapeutic counselling to survivors of sexual violence while also helping care for the day-to-day needs of the shelter. Our team works from a collaborative, heart-centered approach to support individuals who identify as women and who have experienced intimate partner violence. While counselling is a meaningful part of this role, you will also contribute to the overall life of the shelter—bringing your skills, empathy, and presence to a space that values connection, safety, and healing, with a special focus on sexual violence support.
Qualifications:
1. Applicants must have successfully completed a HBSW with direct feminist counselling; (A copy of your qualifications must be attached to your resume) with documented experience in trauma therapy for survivors of sexual violence and woman abuse.
2. A feminist analysis of sex-gender based violence (with a focus on sexual violence; this analysis includes understanding the way that age, ability, race, indigeneity, queerness and trans-ness) impact experiences of violence and support- seeking.
3. Domestic and Sexual Violence Crisis intervention work-including crisis call, support with intake gained from 3-5 years’ experience in a shelter (or similar setting) or sexual assault services.
4. Must demonstrate an understanding and ability to serve 2SLGBTQAI+ survivors. An understanding of how gender impacts sexual violence Faye Peterson is a gender INCLUSIVE but not “gender neutral” organization.
5. Anti-racist, anti-oppressive, trauma informed, harm reduction, and decolonial counselling approach.
6. Must have direct experience working with people struggling with mental health and/or substance abuse/addiction problems. Practice from a harm reduction philosophy.
7. Specialized training in sexual violence counselling, including childhood sexual abuse issues and Human Trafficking.
8. Advanced knowledge of how sexual exploitation, addiction, mental health, and poverty impact survivors of sexual violence.
9. Must have knowledge of community resources, treatment centers, social service networks, and organizations. Knowledge of funding agencies is available to assist clients in accessing needed support services and community resources.
10. Excellent therapeutic clinical note taking meeting or exceeding ethical standards requirements of the College of Ontario Social Work or the College of Psychotherapy.
11. Preference will be given to diverse candidates who identify as such and speak (and write) in more than one language.
12. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with others, and work as a team player.
13. Demonstrated understanding of mindfulness principals as they relate to being a woman, and or, child advocate.
15. Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the Mission, Vision, and Value statements of the organization as well as an analysis of Violence Against Women.
16. Demonstrated proficiency and the ability to use the following: word processing and database programs – Microsoft Word, Windows, WISH (database program).
17. Must have demonstrated strong team building skills as well as be able to solve problems independently.
